LEAGUE 13 OF 20

BROOKLODGE UTD 0 v 2 BLACKSTONE ROVERS

ROVERS STAY TOP AFTER TOUGH TEST IN TOUGH CONDITIONS

A GAME OF TWO HALVES REALLY Was the story in glanmire on Saturday last. rovers had the advantage of the slope and wind in the 1st half, but the wind was making it hard for the attackers too. A cross by warren forde midway through the half was headed home by Michael twohig to break the deadlock. A corner late in the half from danny long went straight in to give rovers a two goal lead at the break. A tough second half against the conditions was met at every turn by stout defending all over the park. The final whistle was greeted by huge cheers as another hurdle in the title dream had been jumped.

Hibs away next week, and the 20 man squad will be up for another big test.

BLACKSTONE PRODUCED ANOTHER BIG CUP PERFORMANCE AT MONARD TO BEAT THEIR 3RD HIGHER RANKED SIDE OF THE SEASON. ROVERS WENT 2 UP IN THE FIRST HALF AND COULD HAVE BEEN MORE AHEAD. THE VISITING LEE RANGERS TOOK THE CHANCES THAT CAME THEIR WAY. ALL OF A SUDDEN, ROVERS WERE A GOAL BEHIND ENTERING THE FINAL MINUTES. THE RETURNING DAVE O CONNOR RIFLED HOME FROM THE EDGE OF THE BOX AND THE CROWD WENT WILD. INTO EXTRA TIME AND THE SIDES COULDN’T BE SEPERATED. INTO SPOTTERS, THEY WENT FIRST, 1-0, WARREN 1-1, THEM 2-1, DOC 2-2, THEM 3-2, PEARSE 3-3, THEM SAVED BY JB 3-3, TWIGGY 4-3, THEM SAVED BY JB, WE WON!!!!

27TH FEBRUARY 2008 CASTLEVIEW 0 V 6 BLACKSTONE ROVERS:

A sticky away fixture turned out well for the visiting Rovers side, whose three points took them back to the top of the league.

Blackstone were in charge from the beginning but found the defensive offside trap working well in the early stages. Colin O Leary opened the scoring midway through the first half, and when an Adam Geaney cross was deflected into the net, it seemed there would only be one winner.

Two up at the break, Blackstone stepped up a gear and for the first 15 minutes, they tore the opposition apart. Stephen Wall made it 3, before Colin O Leary made it 4 on the hour.

Sub Terry Mc Sweeney scored on his competitive debut and fellow entrant Keith Mc Carthy continued his fondness for scoring against teams in stripes with a smart finish before the end. 3 points and back to the top of the league.

A weekend off next week for the Rovers.

THE GAME WAS SWITCHED TO MONARD, AND THE ROVERS WERE CONFIDENT IN THE BUILD UP. OVERNIGHT, THE WEATHER WORSENED AND DURING THE GAME DRIVING WIND AND RAIN TESTED THE 22 SOULS ON THE PITCH, AS WELL AS THE WATCHING MASSES. IT RENDERED THE GAME AS A LOTTERY AND THOUGH ROVERS WERE ON TOP, IT FINISHED SCORELESS. 5 MINUTES INTO EXTRA TIME, FAIRVIEW TOOK THE LEAD, AND THE FUTURE LOOKED BLEAK. AS SO OFTEN HAPPENS NED POPPED UP WITH THE GOAL TO SEND THE FANS IN “THE NEW SHED” DELIRIOUS. INTO PENALTIES, AND WE MISSED OUR FIRST AND THIRD KICKS. FAIRVIEW MISSED THEIR SECOND ONE & CONVERTED THEIR FIFTH TO CRUSH THE HEARTS OF THE ROVERS FAITHFUL.

ON HIS FIRST START FOR THE CLUB, HE SCORED AFTER 2 MINUTES..........BEFORE LEAVING THE PITCH ON 15 MINUTES. THERE WAS ONLY ONE TEAM IN THE GAME RIGHT THROUGHOUT AND THE ONLY SUPRISE WAS IT WAS ONLY 2. THE FANS ON THE SIDELINE QUESTIONED WHETHER HIBS ACTUALLY GOT A CHANCE. MICHAEL GEANEY CAPPED A FINE PERFORMANCE WITH A GOAL DIRECTLY FROM A CORNER ON THE HOUR. THE INTRODUCTION OF "DIAL A SUB" SHOWS HOW ROVERS HAVE EMBRACED TECHNOLOGY.
